Red white and blue drinks

There is nothing more refreshing, tasty and wonderful than the red, white and blue national drink!

In honor of the upcoming 4th of July holiday and in celebration (celebration??) of the cold winter weather we’ve been enjoying (new??), today and Thursday I’m sharing two fun, festive and delicious hot and refreshing drink it will help you along the way.

The first are these spectacular and fabulous drinks. They were popping up all over the internet and I had to believe they could actually work.

Who would have thought that based on something like sugar, drinks would exist in their own little stratosphere. Definitely one of those “why didn’t I think of those moments.” But having barely remembered my kids’ names much less my high school physics (or should I call it chemistry?) class, I’m not really surprised my brain didn’t come first there.

I took a few different drinks to get these layered beauties to work without thinking about the flavor combination, and I will say that I’ve never mixed cranberry juice, blue gatorade, and Sprite (I’m sure I’m not the only one who has never done it), I was surprised at the outcome.

It was delicious! And seriously, I think these drinks are so delicious that it doesn’t matter what they taste like.

When I gave these hard drinks to my kids, they praised me, like I was the smartest and coolest mom in the world. There is no need to disclose them otherwise.

Stay tuned Monday for a second drink that will rock your world. Here’s a clue: the volcanic fruit.

Red white and blue country drink

Prep time: 5 minutes

Total time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • Cranberry juice, chilled
  • Blue Gatorade, sugar free, chilled
  • Sprite Zero, chilled
  • ice

Instructions

  1. Fill each glass with ice.
  2. Pour the cranberry juice into the glass, fill approx. 1/3 of the way.
  3. Slowly pour the blue gatorade over the ice (if you pour it over the rim of the glass and it comes in contact with the cranberry juice without filtering through the ice, it won’t create separate layers) and let it flow until full . the cup is 1/3 of the way (so now the glass should be 2/3 full).
  4. Finally, slowly pour the Sprite Zero over the ice and let it flow slowly to create the final layer. Serve immediately.

Notes

Stacking Drinks: The method behind this drink is to choose 3 (or more!) drinks of varying sugar content and put the drinks with the highest sugar at the bottom, until the drink without sugar on top. For example, I used cranberry juice with 30g of sugar for the bottom layer, blue gatorade with 16g of sugar for the middle layer, and Sprite Zero with 0g of sugar for the top layer.
