And that’s a really cool thing, because if you’re like me, you eat golden French toast dipped in Nutella and strawberries every day of the week.

As I played around with this recipe, my 4 year old got all the benefits in earnest. I think I had Nutella and Strawberry Stuffed French Toast for lunch for three straight days with a little variation here and there.

Funnily enough, the only complaint I heard was that he had to go back to eating the old standby: PB&J.

Luckily my other kids don’t read my blog because I’m making this for our V-Day breakfast and I want it to be amazing.

I bribed my taste tester not to say a word, promising a quadruple version instead of last summer’s boring triple decker.

Listen, it’s programmed into your DNA to remove anything serious in Nutella.

I am her mother after all.

Strawberry Nutella Stuffed French Toast

Yield: 4 servings

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 6 minutes

Total time: 26 minutes

Materials Required

  • 3 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 8-12 thick slices of bread
  • ½ cup Nutella, more or less
  • 8-10 strawberries, stemmed and sliced
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Powdered sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. In a shallow plate or cake bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or a sharp knife (heart-shaped freehand, this is what I did), cut a heart out of each loaf. I like to save the excess crust and bread for my homemade loaves – throw them all in a ziplock bag and put them in the freezer.
  2. Heat a griddle or nonstick skillet over medium heat (add a little butter if your pan is sticky). Dip each heart-shaped piece of bread into the egg/milk film so that the liquid is absorbed into the bread. Cook the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove to a plate and repeat the process until all the bread is cooked. Cream and powdered sugar (to taste, 1/2 teaspoon or more) until stiff peaks form.
  3. Spread a healthy amount of Nutella on a piece of toasted bread. Top with sliced strawberries. Spread the Nutella on another bread slice and place the bread bread side down on top of the strawberries. Top with another layer of sliced strawberries and a final slice of French toast. Top with some whipped cream and sprinkle with some grated nutmeg if desired. Serve immediately

Notes:

Double Decker: You can do this double decker instead of triple decker.
Preparation: Also, the bread can be sliced the day before to speed up morning preparation.
